Release date and price
It is out now: released 5 November 2026 on PC, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, priced $19.99 and discounted to $16.99 at launch.
Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School released on 5 November 2026 and is out now on PC, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. The Steam price is $19.99, discounted 15% to $16.99 while the launch sale runs. Xbox Game Pass subscribers get it as part of the subscription on console and PC.

The store's own release record confirms the date is past rather than pending, and the 6 November 2026 launch announcement names all three platforms in its first paragraph. If you are reading this in the launch week, both of those sources are still current.
The full price and platform table
| Platform | Status | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Steam (Windows) | Out now | $19.99 / $16.99 at 15% off | The only storefront with this page's screenshot set |
| Xbox Series X/S | Out now | Regional | Also on Xbox Game Pass |
| PlayStation 5 | Out now | Regional | Cross-play with PC and Xbox is not supported |
| Nintendo Switch | Not announced | - | No listing, no date, no rating |
| Epic Games Store | Named in a release post | Regional | A Russian-language release item carried in the game's Steam news feed |
Two rows in that table deserve a sentence each. The Switch row is not a delay - there is no version to delay. The Epic row is easy to miss because the English announcement does not mention it. A Russian-language release item carried in the game's Steam news feed says "PC через Steam и Epic Games Store", which is the only mention of a second PC storefront - treat it as announced rather than confirmed by the English channels.
What the discount really is
$16.99 against $19.99 is 15% off, which Steam reports as the discount percentage on the store API. What the store does not publish is an end date, and no announcement post commits to one either. Treat it as a launch-window price rather than a permanent one.
The scale worth carrying in your head: the 2022 original launched at $19.99 too, and this sequel arrives at the same list price with a bigger campus. Measured purely against its own predecessor, the sequel is the same money for three to four times the playtime - the developer puts this one at eight to fifteen hours against four to five for the first.
Platforms the game actually runs on
The PC build is Windows only. Steam lists no macOS and no Linux depot, which matters because the Steam Deck question comes up constantly:
| Question | Answer from official sources |
|---|---|
| Native Windows build | Yes |
| Steam Deck | Playable via Proton; the developer tested internally and points users at the latest Proton version when the game will not start |
| macOS | No |
| Linux desktop | No native build |
| Game Pass | Yes, and the store tags include Steam's own family sharing |
The Steam Deck row is the awkward one. The pinned FAQ says internal testing happened but official approval was still pending at the time of writing, and it gives a specific fix for launch failures: force the latest Proton version through the game's properties, then compatibility. Players on the forum report that this works.
What the launch window means for a purchase date
There are three honest positions on when to buy, and they depend on whether you want to play this week.
Buy now if you want to play now. The discount is live, the game is out, and the first patch has already landed. Waiting for a deeper cut means waiting months for a saving that is currently 15% and might become 25%.
Wait if you are not playing this month. This is a single-player-first puzzle game with an eight-to-fifteen-hour campaign and no live-service hook. Nothing degrades by waiting, and the 2022 original has already been discounted to 85% off in a Steam Daily Deal, which is the shape of the discount curve for this studio's games.
Buy the bundle if you were already buying a second game. Three bundles include this one and each pairs it with a different game. A bundle only saves money on things you would have bought anyway; on anything else it is a discount on an unwanted purchase.
One thing the store does not publish: whether the $16.99 price is a permanent change or a temporary one. List is $19.99, and the discount percentage is live data rather than a promise.
Where to buy it cheaply, honestly
There is no free route. The demo at appid 4198180 is free and it is a genuine slice of the game, but it is a demo, and the two demo builds have different save behaviour - only the one published 16 October 2026 carries forward.
Three bundles include this game, all named in the launch announcement:
- The Escape Sequels Bundle with Escape Simulator 2.
- Escape Academy 2 x TOEM 2.
- We Escape Tomorrow, with We Were Here Tomorrow.
If you were already going to buy one of those other games, the bundle is the sensible purchase and it is why the Escape Simulator 2 comparison exists on this site. If you were not, the bundle is a discount on something you did not want.
Version you will be downloading
The build shipping today is v1.0.20261105.001, the number introduced by the 6 November hotfix. If your main menu shows an older string, Steam has not finished updating you and the two quest-item bugs the hotfix repairs are still live in your install. The known issues page lists what those bugs do, and the update timeline has every dated build.
Next, if the price is settled: which edition to buy, or whether $16.99 is the right call.
