Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School

Editions, DLC and the free demo

CHECKED 2026-11-07 · DAT 204

Quick answer

Buy the base game at $16.99 and add the $14.99 Season Pass only if you want the two expansions; the $5.99 Supporter Pack covers the soundtrack plus artbook, and the demo is free.

Five things carry a price tag around this game, and only one of them is the game. The Deluxe Edition bundles three of them together, which means the useful question is not "what is in the Deluxe Edition" but "do I want the pieces".

Everything on this page comes from the Steam store pages for appid 3296060, 4732000, 5370630 and 5370680, plus the launch announcement of 6 November 2026. Prices are the US dollar amounts the store returned on 7 November 2026.

Every SKU, priced

Season Pass4732000$14.99Two future expansions plus the Mask-uerade cosmetic pack

Supporter Pack5370680$5.99Soundtrack plus the digital artbook
Demo4198180FreeA playable slice, save-compatible only from the 16 October build

Read the middle of that table carefully, because two rows overlap. The Supporter Pack is the soundtrack and the artbook together for $5.99. Buy the soundtrack alone at $3.99 and you are $2 short of the pack that also gives you the artbook. The soundtrack is not a saving, it is a smaller purchase.

What the Season Pass actually promises

The store copy for the Season Pass is specific about shape and silent about dates. It covers two upcoming major expansions, and each expansion gets an all-new narrative set in the Escape Academy universe, brand new escape rooms, and extra credit side quests.

That is the whole promise. No date, no room count, no chapter names. The 13 October announcement confirms the studio was "hard at work" on two DLC adventures and promised more news later; nothing since has added a window. If you are the kind of buyer who needs a date before paying, the Season Pass is not for you yet, and the Season Pass page collects everything the studio has actually said.

One mechanical detail from the pinned FAQ that catches people: the expansions are co-op content under the same rule as the base game. Both players need to own the DLC. There is no friend pass, and buying the pass for one account does not unlock it for a partner.

Is the Deluxe Edition worth it

Only if you want all three parts. Doing the arithmetic on the components:

Buying separatelyCost
Base game$16.99
Season Pass$14.99
Supporter Pack (OST + artbook)$5.99
Total$37.97

The Deluxe Edition exists to sell that set for less than $37.97, which it does - bundles on Steam are priced below the sum of their parts. What the Deluxe Edition does not do is let you skip the Season Pass, so if the expansions do not interest you, the Deluxe Edition is the wrong product no matter how the bundle is priced.

A reasonable decision rule, in one line each:

  • Just want the game: base game at $16.99. That is the whole campaign.
  • Know you will want more rooms and trust the studio: base plus Season Pass, $31.98, and accept that you are pre-paying for content with no date.
  • Want the music and the art: Deluxe, because it is cheaper than the three pieces bought apart.
  • Want the artbook but not the expansions: Supporter Pack at $5.99, and skip the Season Pass.
  • Not sure at all: the demo, which costs nothing and answers the only question that matters - whether you like being in this campus.

The demo, and its one trap

The demo is a free standalone appid, and it is a real slice rather than a trailer with a menu. Two things about it are worth knowing before you invest an evening in it.

First, the demo was patched on 17 October 2026 with performance improvements, localisation fixes and one behavioural change that matters: the demo used to wipe your save at the end of the run, and it no longer does. That patch is what makes demo progress portable.

Second, portability depends on which demo you played. The developer's pinned FAQ states it plainly: if you played the demo before 16 October 2026, create a new save for the release build and delete the old ones, because the old demo save is not compatible. If you played the newer demo, the save continues. Players who fall on the wrong side of that line and do not want to replay the first hour can use a replacement save the developer published, alongside instructions to disable Steam Cloud, swap the SaveData folder and re-enable it.

What is not for sale

No cosmetic store, no currency pack, no battle pass. The Mask-uerade pack is the only cosmetic DLC and it is bundled rather than sold at a markup, and escape bucks - the in-game currency for campus cosmetics - are earned, not bought. That is a small thing worth stating, because the game's structure invites the assumption.

If price is settled and you are choosing between this and another puzzler, the Escape Simulator 2 comparison covers the bundle those two share. If you are weighing the sequel against the original you may already own, that comparison is here.
