Chapter 2: the rooms that bite
Chapter 2 opens with Eyes on the Prize and runs into Play Close Detention, then widens into the clocktower, the ball maze and the ship; the single most useful habit is exiting to the menu and reloading a stage the moment physics looks wrong.
Chapter 2 is where Escape Academy 2 stops holding your hand. The rooms chain rather than sit side by side, the campus opens into areas with their own logic, and the first genuine bug of the run is likely to appear here.

What follows is the structure - room order, what each stage asks, and where the documented blockers sit - without giving away mechanisms the game has not published. Where a room has a known bug, the fix is named.
The stage chain
The achievement list gives you the order, because achievements fire per stage and their unlock rates fall in sequence. Two stage names appear in a player's own report of replaying early rooms: Eyes on the Prize and Play Close Detention, which the player describes as running into each other - finishing the first shuttled them straight into the second rather than back to the dorm.
| Stage | Named in | What it is | Known blocker |
|---|---|---|---|
| Eyes on the Prize | Achievement list, player report | Mid-game room, replayable | Replays chain into the next stage instead of returning you to the dorm |
| Play Close Detention | Achievement list, player report | Follows directly | Same replay-chaining behaviour |
| The ball maze | Player report, developer reply | Physics puzzle | Ball ships with physics disabled; reload fixes |
| The clocktower | Player report | Season dial puzzle | Mirrored arrangements read as correct |
| The ship | Player report | Tic-tac-toe with barrels | Barrel-to-cell mapping is not explained |
The replay-chaining note is worth knowing because it is a quality-of-life complaint with a developer acknowledgement: replays were added late, "they are not in a great state", and it is "on our radar for a QoL patch". If you are replaying for A+ ranks, expect to be pushed forward rather than returned to the dorm, and quit out manually between attempts.
The ball maze, and the one habit that saves the run
The ball maze is the chapter's first real blocker and its fix is documented by the developer.
The report: "physics didn't enable for the ball", cleared by closing and reopening the game. The developer's reply confirms it, tells players the team is tracking it, and gives the workaround: "reload the level. Exit to menu and get back in." A third player adds the reproduction condition - pressing the room's reset button before the rat reaches a particular point appears to trigger it.
What that means in practice:
- If the ball will not move, do not solve harder. Reload. A ball that ignores gravity is a failed initialisation, not a puzzle state.
- Do not press reset mid-run. If you must reset, reset the whole level from the menu rather than the in-room button.
- If a reload does not clear it, restart the game. The bug is in level initialisation, and a full process restart is the stronger reset.
The clocktower
The clocktower is a season-dial puzzle and the failure mode is a mirrored arrangement. The full breakdown, including the exact arrangement a player reported and what the correction was, is on the clocktower page. The short version: check each season's sun height against the season opposite it before you conclude the puzzle will not accept your answer.
The clocktower also holds a constellation word puzzle, and that one has a documented translation quirk - a French-language player reported the word CHAMEAU paired with a one-humped dromedary illustration. It is a joke or a mistranslation, not a clue.
The ship
The ship's tic-tac-toe is the third recurring blocker. A player described the exact experience: hint used, pattern understood, and no idea how the barrels map to the board. Five progressive hints exist on that thread rather than an answer, which tells you the intended path is incremental.
The practical approach is on the ship page: count barrels against cells first, because a mismatch means the mapping is positional rather than one-to-one.
What chapter 2 opens up
Past the chain, the chapter widens into the campus areas the developer toured in its devlogs:
- Science Campus for the biology and chemistry rooms, and the chicken quest the studio describes as "one of the first major campus quests".
- Arts Campus for the narrative rooms, including the one the studio calls Death of an Artist - a murder-mystery play where the lead has vanished.
- Campus Gardens for the hedge maze and the red herring runs.
- Headmaster's Tower for the late-story rooms and the glass rendering artefact AMD users report.
None of those are optional in the sense of being skippable without consequence - the rooms inside them feed the story - but their side content all stays available after the main line. Confirmed on the forum: everything can be done after the main story.

Chapter 2 in one paragraph
Clear Eyes on the Prize and Play Close Detention back to back, reloading from the menu rather than the in-room reset whenever physics misbehaves. Treat the clocktower as an arrangement problem and check for mirroring. Treat the ship as a mapping problem and count before you map. Then use the campus opening up as permission to go sideways - the side quests do not expire, the collectibles do not expire, and the story will wait while you look behind the boathouse.
Next: all 41 achievements if you are chasing completion, or known issues if something in this chapter is misbehaving in a way the reload did not fix.
